From the greek photizo, which comes from the word for "light."  In Protestant theology, illumination is the work of the Holy Spirit that allows human beings to understand Scripture when it is heard or read.  Jesus, through the Gospel, enlightens (John 1:9, 2 Tim. 1:10).  In Ephesians 1:18, a form of the Greek word is translated as "enlightened," which refers metaphorically to spiritual understanding.  See John 1:9; Ephesians 3:9; Hebrews 6:4;  Revelation 22:5.  (taken from The Compact Dictionary of Doctrinal Words)

Too busy.  Too much to do.  Wish I had more time to blog on this thing.  I am entering this entry out of a sense of obligation.  Hopefully I will overcome that soon and have more to say.  Greek, Hebrew, missions, apologetics...  My brain feels too little.

I have basically just come out of the bush in Uganda (plus a small rafting trip down the Nile) and I am heading to the airport to go to London this afternoon.  It has been a tremendous experience working with the Karamajong and I will have more to tell when I get to a restriction-free computer.  Until then - God Bless!!
