I am curious to what concerns Christian's today. I try to live a Christian life but often fall short.

Christian in Name Only

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them. 2 Timothy 3:14

Most of us remember the day when we accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts. Remember the overwhelming warmth and joy? The day you left the darkness for the loving light of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was the most important of your life. So, do you still feel that joy today?

Many of us, myself included, get so caught up in the things of this world we become Christians in name only. What I mean by that is that we did at one time accept Jesus Christ into our hearts. And we did for a certain period of time attend church, read the Word, and attempt to change our carnal ways. However, our focus is now split up into sections. A section for family, as section for work, a section for play, a section for our financial worries, and so on. The problem with this is that our primary focus should only be on the one that shed His blood for us, Jesus Christ. Now, we say we are Christians, but we do not practice being a Christian as it is meant to be.

St. Matthew 5:48, Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is

in heaven is perfect.

According to St. Matthew 15: 8,9:

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. You see, it is not good enough to say you are a Christian. You must follow his commands and make him your primary focus in your life.

I can not cover all areas of our lives that need attention, but I will cover a few that I feel are very important. One area pertains to having enemies, or people in our lives we do not like or have hard feelings towards. "

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them which despitefully use you, and persecute you, Matthew 5:44". Many of us do not even realize we are not treating everyone in our lives as God wants us to treat them. You know what I mean, a certain friend or relative did or said something to you, or said something about you, and now you treat them differently, not with love. According to God's Word, it does not matter how terrible someone has treated you, or what they have done to you, you are to love them and to, " ...do good to them that despitefully use you, and persecute you".

Another area which most of us are not adhering to the Word of God is in matters of the flesh. According to St. Matthew 5:28,

But I say unto you. That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. That goes for men and women. This is a huge issue today. Many people think it is fine to "test the waters" before they make a commitment; however that is not the will of God. I am very ashamed to say that I failed in this area. I am very sorry for what I did and I realize I was wrong. I have begged for His forgiveness in this area. It is important to know that we are to remain pure not only in the physical realm but in the spiritual realm also. We are NOT to have sexual relationships outside of marriage.

We can not only honor the commandments or scripture we find conducive for or lifestyles. We can not twist the scripture into what works best for us. Once we accepted Jesus as our savior we were to give up our old evil ways, the ways of this world and to honor and comply with the law of our Lord. Obviously we are not perfect, we are all sinners, we are going to falter many, many times. But we must focus on obeying the law of God not man. "Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, and with them call on our Lord out of a pure heart, 2 Timothy 2:22.

Now, about the primary focus of our lives. We are not to focus on the things of this world. Matthew 10:37, 38

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. You say, but I love my kids, my husband, my wife, with all my heart, is that wrong? No. What it means is that you must love God, the Father, more than you love anybody or anything else in your life. If you truly love Him more, if you make Him the primary focus of your life He will nurture your relationships. He wants what is best for you and He will take care of the needs of your heart. To truly love him, to truly make him number one in your life is to step out in faith that He will take care of every aspect of your life.

Allow me to share with you from one of my devotionals. Devotions For a Deeper Life, by Oswald Chambers.

And every one that has forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my name's sake shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life, St. Matthew 19:29.

Jesus must be absolutely first in our love. He will curse anything we love most--that is the burden of today's Scripture text.

If I love this present age more than Him, the Lord will rebuke me. If I love myself more, the Lord will convict me. But if I love Him most, He will not be offended by me, nor I by Him. "Blessed are ye that shall not be offended in Me."

Prayer thought: Dear Lord, I love you--above and beyond all others and everything else!

In closing, it is imperative that we are not Christians in name only. I urge you to re-commit your life to Jesus Christ and his commandments. For just because at one time in your you dedicated your life to Him, and you were baptized does not automatically mean you will enter the gates of heaven. St. Matthew 7: 13, 14, 21:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

May the Lord add His blessings to these writings. And my He guide and comfort all that read these words.

Hello my brother's and sister's in Christ,
It has indeed been a very long time since I have posted. However, I
felt compelled to share this daily devotional with you. I have been
studying from "Devotions for a Deeper Life, by Oswald Chambers".
This devotional has provided me with some very helpful insight into
improving my daily walk.

I will type exactly what is the reading for July 19.

July 19
Suggested Reading: Psalm 139:1-10
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou
understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my
lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways (Ps. 139:2-3)

Always remember that God's control is behind everything. His care
encircles every incident and event of our lives. This means that we
can maintain an attitude of perfect trust in Him and an eagerness to
ask God for aid in our daily living.

If our minds are conditioned to think in this manner, when we are in
difficulty it is easy to remember, "My Father knows all about it."
We need not exert an effort to do so; such a thought will come
naturally. Rather than rushing to ask someone else what we should
do about our problems, we realize the nearness of God and simply take
the matter to Him.

Who is the first person you consult when you have a problem? What is
the first thing you do?

Remember, nothing happens unless God's will is behind it. Therefore,
you can rest confident in the midst of your situation. Also remember
that prayer is more than asking; it is an attitude of trust--an
attitude that produces an atmosphere in which asking God for help is
perfectly natural.

Prayer Thought: The comfort of Your nearness is my strength today,
dear Lord.

End of Reading

Well, I don't know about all of you, but I know for myself I often
try to control my problems on my own. I catch myself saying things
like, "Now what am I going to do. I am confused what I should do."
What I am slow to remember is that the "I" should be taken out of my
thought process. My first action should be going to the Lord with
all my worries and concerns. My second actions is an action of true
faith in Him. We can say we trust that He will take care of the
problem but do we truly believe that He will. If we indeed truly
believe in Him and have faith that He will do what is best for us, we
would not stress over the situation.

We need to remember to go to Him with all of our concerns, ask for
His help, and trust that He will answer our prayers. Also, it is
important that we ask that His will be done, not ours. He knows what
is best for us. Have faith that He will provide for your needs and
understand that he not only knows what is best for you but the timing
of those needs. It is not as easy as you think. Total faith in Him
requires that you give up CONTROL of what you view as what is best
for you. In today's world we are all control freaks. We also want
things now. However, that type of life is a life living for this
world. Remember we are not to be of this world. John 14:27, Peace
I leave with you , my peace I give unto you , not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid.

Also remember these words spoken by Jesus, These things I have spoken
unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world ye shall
have tribulations: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world,
John 16:33. How comforting is that? Jesus indeed overcame the world,
he overcame death, and He overcame so He could give us everlasting
peace.

So next time you face a trial or tribulation no matter how big or
small, go to the Lord our God in prayer. I will say of the Lord, He
is my refuge and my fortress: my God in Him will I trust, Psalm 91:2.

May all that read these words be truly blessed.

Dearest brothers and sisters in Christ,
5/1/2008 is the National Day of Prayer. Although we should always pray
without ceasing, be ever mindful tomorrow. Remember to pray for our
troops that are fighting for our freedom. Also remember their family
and friends that are left behind to worry every day about their loved
ones safety. Encourage others to pray and pray with them.
The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in
truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will
hear their cry and save them. Psalm 145:18,19
Be Blessed,
Lynne

Be Thankful for All Things
We must remember to be thankful to our Lord Jesus for all things in
our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the things of the secular
world; however, we must remember that everything we have,
materialistic or humanistic, were created and given to us by our
Lord. Our Lord God wants us to be happy on during our time here on
earth so He has been, and continues to be, merciful and gracious by
placing things in our lives that make us happy. However, it is our
job not to make these things or people our god(s). We must realize
that we actually own nothing, that all of our possessions belong to
our maker. Therefore, we must always give thanks for everything, the
air we breathe, the flowers, the rain, the bugs, the sky, our cars,
our food, our clothes, the list is endless. We must also be thankful
for each and every person in our lives.

It is our job as Christians to be an example to non-believers that we
know where our gifts have come from, we are thankful for those gifts,
but we focus is on the maker of all things, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We must remember, and help others realize, that none of the things in
our lives are important except that one supreme gift of Salvation.
We must let others know that the Lord Jesus died on the cross; shed
his blood for our sins, so that we could have eternal life in
heaven. We must also let the non-believers know that they too can
reap the rewards of eternal life and a heavenly home if they simply
confess of their sins and open their hearts to the Lord Jesus and
accept Him as their Savior.

In closing, simply remember that we are not the owners of our
possessions here on earth, nor are we the creators or the owners of
the people in our lives, but it has all been made possible by the one
who loves us the most, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our
salvation! Selah. Psalm 68:19

It is easy to soemtimes feel like you are facing problems on your
own, or to feel lonely because you think you are alone. However, I
know for a FACT that you are not alone. Our Lord Jesus Christ is
always by your side and sometimes carrying through your most
difficult moments. It is up to us to turn to Him during the good and
the bad times. It is up to us to try to think we are the ones in
contro, we are not He is. We must have faith that He will guide us
and give us the strength we need to accomplish anything and to face
all of our challenges.
Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me.

God gives us the wisdom and the strength to accomplish all things.
Remember it is His will not ours to be done. Always seek Him in all
you do. This does not mean you will face difficult times in your
life, it means He will help you through those times with mercy,
grace, and unconditional love.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in you, Isiah 26:3. God has given us amazing
opportunities and free will, make him proud He did.
Be blessed,
Lynne
