Peeping Tom

Our neigbor has now taken to standing on our wall in an attempt to see what we're doing in the back yard. He's been spotted by 3 other neighbors and even admitted to a 4th that the only way he can see what's going on is to stand on the wall.

Anyone have any suggestions re: how to handle a Peeping Tom?

Second Victory!

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department returned our check to us over the weekend ... proving that they were wrong to cite us for parking too close to a fire hyrdant when we were in fact parked on the inside edge of the hydrant and on our own private property.

Ha!

In other news ... the police showed up again last week because a neighbor called to report our tree-removal activities. Again, were were in the clear (helps to know the law). In the town of Los Gatos it is legal to remove a tree from your own property without a permit provided the tree is less than 12" 'round at 36" above grade and that the tree removal is not part of building construction project.

So there.

Meet Pan!
Meet Pan! magnify
Back Story: 1997 - Grady I go to Europe and see a Fiat Barchetta - fell in love with the auto. We wanted a Barchetta but Fiat never released them in the states and, because they're a newer car, they're very difficult to import. We've often talked about ways to get one here ...

August 2, 2005 - Leaving at 10:30 pm to drive to Vacaville to start our rafting vacation, Al overheats (big time). We make it about 30 min. up the road and pull off on Berryessa in SJ. Grady spends 25 min. checking out Al to find, among other things, the water pump is not working. We turn around and drive home to get the 1982 Toyota Pickup. Home at midnight - finally get to Vacaville at 2:00 am

August 7 - 14, 2005 - I drive a rental car. Grady gets parts for Al and starts the fixes. Searching online for newer used cars (2002 or newer) begins. Some of Al's parts are backordered ...

August 14, 2005 - Return rental and pick up my friends Xterra to drive while she's on vacation. Grady asks if I can take a day off this week (Friday) to go on a road trip. I assume it's to help him pick up some thing he bought somewhere.

August 17, 2005 ...

6:00 am - Grady leaves the house - says he has to go to Gilroy (I assume it's to track down Maurillio for something).

5:15 pm - After a crappy day at work, I call Grady to say I'm calling it a day and driving home. Grady's at Peter's house. We agree to get Sushi for dinner.

6:00 pm - I get home. Grady says we need to go by Peter & Jenni's before dinner because he left his shoes there (took them off when he stopped by and forgot to put them on before coming home - this does not raise any flags - it appears to be a typical Grady maneuver).

6:40ish pm - We drive to Peter & Jenni's. We park on the street just before their driveway. There's a palette of pavers in the driveway (no surprise, they're having work done), Jennis' white Honda is parked on the street, just the other side of the driveway. Walking toward their house, we pause in the driveway while I continue my rant about work.

6:42ish pm - Pausing the rant, conversation somehow turns to Grady's shoes and Grady says, "I left them in your Barchetta." I look baffled at him, turn around, and suddenly see the bright yellow convertible.

At this point there was an "Oh my gawd," "Sh*t," some watery eyes, lots of smiles - probably repeated and all jumbled up.

The CA license plate that Grady got from the DMV has "PAN" in the sequence so we shall call the Fiat Barchetta, Pan.

Details on Grady's Story: While searching for cars, Grady found a guy in Los Angeles who's friend in Illinois has an import business and had brought the car here a few years ago. The friend is buying a Ferrari Daytona so selling the Barchetta. The LA guy was selling the car on his friend's behalf. So Grady flew to LA on August 17, the guy picked him up at the airport, took him to get the car and Grady drove home. He did drive through Gilroy on his way back and would have stopped at the Outlets to get some more Swamp Sauce if the exit signs had been more clearly marked.

The Story Continues: On Friday, August 19, we are getting up at the crack of dawn because the LA guy was already scheduled to show the Barchetta in the Concorso Italiano car show in Monterey (http://www.concorso.com/). Since he sold the car quicker than expected - we'll be taking Pan to Monterey.

Easement 2: We fought the Law and ... WE Won!

Received a letter from the LG Police on Saturday stating the March citation (for us parking more than 72 hours on our own property) has been dismissed! Turns out we CAN park on our land (thank-y0u-very-much) ... the PD checked the little box stating the case was dismissed because of "an error" or "in the interest of justice."

It only took 4 months, countless hours of traffic- and land-law research, and a stack of documentation to prove the size and use of the road easement ... but that 10' strip o' dirt is ours!
