The ramblings of a certifiable nutcase, and father trying to be a regular guy in an irregular world

Entry for January 14, 2008

AKKKK! I have turned into my father!

It's not enough that I have all my hair falling out from my head and growing back in other places it's not supposed to be...but those WORDS..... OOOOHHHH my goodness...

"If I have to tell you again I'll....."

"What did I just say?"

"Are you paying attention?"

I'm just waiting for it to come out like "I say, pay atttention when I'm-a-talking to you son...."

OK it's either my dad or Foghorn Leghorn, I can't remember. By the way have you seen my glasses?

Argh! Now I have to go wash out my mouth after saying ALMOST all the things I said I'd never say when I became a dad. I HATE it when he's right...

New Cars are going to cause....insert your highest level of hyperbole here. Yes friends, the Smart car finally debuts in the US and now we have a sub $2,000 entry for India. Are these good cars? Well let's see--Smart is a hit in Europe-it's as safe as a small car can be-it gets good mileage and holds 4 people. So what did we do to bring it here? Made it bigger so the Hummer with a trailer and the 2.6 horses every family has can't just crush it like an empty beer can in an accident. The Tata Nano (the sub $2500 entry from INDIA) is going to be so popular that people who used to ride their scooters(as a FAMILY-as in up to 6 people on a scooter) may actually be able to afford a car! Heavens-we'll pollute the earth! Global warming! Lions! Tigers! Bears, OH MY!

What a bunch of bologna! There's room for cheap transportation here AND overseas. If you want one of these Micro-sub compact cars that get 50 MPG, fine. If you want a Hummer, fine. If you are really worked up over Global Warming--Walk. (No, seriously it's recently been show that walking is harder on the climate than driving.)

Bottom line here--choice for transportation is GOOD. If you want a Hummer for just you, don't complain about the price of gas. If you want fanastic fuel economy, get a small car. If your scared that your car will be crushed by a Suburban, get a bigger car.

Here' my current rule of thumb: Buy the car you want--you have to pay for it. I choose vehicles less than 10 years old that weigh OVER 3,000", with ABS, and with as many airbags (front, passenger, side) as possible and a vehicle that has acceptable ratings from the insurance companies, not NHTSA.

I have a volvo v-70 wagon. I WANT a red convertible sports car and a truck. Get over it.

Well--seems it's time for a blog entry. Wow, what a year!

I spent the better part of the year Boy Scouting with Avery--let's see-Natchez Trace, Skymont for a week, Vicksburg, Backpacking, Pensacola (staying on the Alabama and going to the NAS to see the museum) to name just a few. Camp Courier is still cold in the winter but the only difference was that THIS time I didn't use a pair of socks to start a fire....ahem...yes well it has been fun.

We spent the holidays in Savannah, GA with the Tonnings/Hugs/et all and had a great time. A photo is linked showing what we watched allt he games on while we were there. NAturally the kids loved the GIANT TV. Mom is better and getting out of bed finally. Hope I can at 50 much less 91!

She who must be obeyed is now a real estate agent and doing very well. She got a new computer and software and is happy "as a pig in slop" There's dignity for you...

Daughter is back to school and taking ballet again. Also guitar and piano so it's plenty noisy here.

On the dog front, He's 105 and growing. It's the thing that could eat Cleveland. He's s good foot warmer but he has a flaw--he demands to be walked frequently. Still sleeps on his back with all 4 paws up in the air and his tounge hanging out. It's all the comedy relief we get some days.
