I scribble about Work, Computers, Internet, Science, Technology, and other random interesting topics
I am sorry to say that this is my last blog posting within the 360 blog, I am moving my blog over to yahoo web hosting which now offers a WordPress blogging feature. The 360 blog is really ok for beginner users. I decided to move for the following reasons:
So, going forward, you can reach my blog postings at:
the RSS2 feed is at:

Try this search on Google: 1 - 0.9 - 0.1
the answer they give is: 1 - 0.9 - 0.1 = -2.77555756 × 10-17
of course the right answer is zero, which is what Yahoo Search gives:
1 - 0.9 - 0.1 = 0
to illustrate the problem with Google rounding:
1 / ((1 - 0.9 - 0.1) * (10^17)) = -0.36028797
when the right answer should be infinity, however yahoo gives this same wrong answer too:
1/((1 - 0.9 - 0.1) * (10^17)) = -0.3602879702

Very terse postings on my blog lately, very busy at work and home. However, I purposely plan on being terse going forward, I think folks prefer blogs that post something funny/informative every now and then, rather than a gazillion postings per day.
Later this week I plan to make a posting about shorting Google, stay in tune for that one
Ok, so this blog posting is about my first Vimeo upload. Vimeo is a Flickr rip-off for Videos, their site is actually pretty well done, I also like the referrals feature they have at the bottom of the clip pages (shows you where traffic to that page is comming from). For example, check the referrals for this clip on Halo 2 xbox live cheating:
http://www.vimeo.com/clip=3948Ok, so the Vimeo posting I did was taken using my new cell phone, I took a clip of David Gerster saying a funny (internal) joke, I then emailed it to the vimeo gateway and it worked straightforwardly (is that a word?). You can check the clip out at:
http://www.vimeo.com/clip=21980
Another nice feature that Vimeo has is taking snapshots out of the video clip and posting them directly to flickr, its a clever move by them, since the photo cross-links back to viemo, hence increasing their distribution and page-rank. You can see an example here:

Is this the first cross moblog entry in history ? not sure, but check the counterpart on David's blog, he was a bit late snapping mine
My Cingular plan was due for a phone upgrade which I did this week. I had to choose between two offers they had:
Sony Ericsson S710a for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate
Motorolla Razr v3 for $199.99
After a lot of reading and research I picked the Sony Ericsson S710a which I think beats the Motorolla Razr v3 with all hands and legs down !
This is why I choose the SE-S710a:
-- SE-S710a screen size is 240x320 (Razr is 176x220)
-- SE-S710a memory is 32MB on phone 32MB MemoryStick Duo (Razr is just 5MB total).
-- SE-S710a has a 1.5 Megapixel camera (Razr is only 0.5 Megapixel)
-- SE-S710a records video (Razr only plays back video)
-- SE-S710a camera has 8x Zoom (Razr is only 4x zoom)
-- SE-S710a has a builtin flash light (Razr got none)
-- SE-S710a comes with a head set for no extra charge
-- SE-S710a comes with a very nice memory-stick/compact-flash USB reader device.
-- All the PC Connectivity Software for the SE-S710a is free, while you have to pay $29.99 for the Razr PC software called "mobile PhoneTools"
The only advantages of the Razr over SE s710a are:
-- The Razr is quad-band and hence supports the 900MHz band (while s710 is tri-band and does not support 900MHz)
-- The Razr is a little bit lighter and thinner (though its wider)
Other than the features listed above both devices were a tie.
So in summary, if you absolutely need a quad-band phone (i.e. supports the 900MHz frequency) then get the Razr, otherwise you should definitely get the SE s710a.
